| Stables
|
 |
The stable complex consists of four single boxes and two double
boxes. The double boxes are used to stable mares and foals
and a transportable cage allows us to treat sick foals while
allowing the mare to still interact with her foal. A single
box and double box is separate from the other boxes which
allows stallions to be housed safely. The stable complex also
houses the surgery and recovery room, semen and general purpose
laboratory, mare crush and phantom mare for stallion collection. |
| Yards |
 |
The
yard complex provide private yards for those clients who prefer
their mares yarded separately-there are two sizes, the larger
are ideal for mares and foals or a few mares from the same
property. The yards are all post and rail fenced, electrified,
separated by a lane and shaded with trees. There are also
larger paddocks where several mares are kept, usually no more
than 3-4 at a time. A double fenced stallion yard is also
available. This paddock is separate from the others to allow
us to quarantine stallions that are being collected for semen
export. All yards are cleaned daily to remove faeces and uneaten
feed/hay. |
| Diagnostic |
 |
There
is a range of equipment that allows us to do diagnostic testing
to get a complete picture of the animal’s health and
for ongoing monitoring of ill patients. We are able to offer
full blood analysis, including biochemistry, glucose and lactate
monitoring. Uterine and clitoral swabs can be processed with
cytology analysis. A commercial laboratory is used for more
advanced pathology work and is within close proximity with
daily pick-ups. |
| Reproduction
Unit |
 |
The
facility allows us to carry out routine reproductive procedures
as well as more advanced techniques. A mare crush allows mares
to be scanned and treated safely. A secure foal crush is close
by. All mares are brought up individually to avoid large numbers
of mares running together and potentially getting injured.
A phantom mare ‘Mary’ can be adjusted in height
to cater for any size stallion. Mount mares are also available
to help collect stallions and are used especially during a
young stallion’s initial training period. The laboratory
contains semen storage canisters, incubators, a microscope
and other equipment required for routine and advanced reproductive
procedures. |
| Surgery
& Recovery Room |
 |
The recovery box has padded walls and flooring to provide
an environment as safe as possible for the induction and recovery
of anaesthetised patients. Anaesthetised patients are hoisted
to the surgical table. Mares having problems foaling can also
be hoisted to assist delivery of the foal. The surgical suite
contains a mobile surgical table, anaesthetic machine and
monitoring equipment. |
| Laboratory
- Semen Handling |
 |
This lab allows us to do a comprehensive range of procedures
ranging from storage, freezing, thawing, semen analysis and
fertility testing, collection and dispatch of chilled semen.
|
| Embryo
Handling |
 |
This
is an environmentally controlled lab that allows us to examine
and handle embryos for embryo transfer. |
